Grandfather Clock Manufacturers >> Ridgeway Grandfather ClocksRidgeway Grandfather ClocksPOSTED: July 20, 2008 12:39 pm Dating back to 1926, the Ridgeway Clock Company has produced more grandfather clocks than almost any other clock maker. Ridgeway was originally founded as the Gravely Furniture Company in part of America’s furniture making region of Virginia.
The Ridgeway Company has seen its share of turmoil over the years and is currently a subsidiary of the Howard Miller Clock Company. Howard Miller builds a wide variety of timepieces but is best known for its grandfather clocks. Ridgeway became part of the Howard Miller family in November of 2004.
Still operating as Gravely Furniture, Ridgeway began manufacturing grandfather clocks exclusively in 1960. Whether as the Gravely Furniture Company or as Ridgeway, company has maintained itself as the longest running brand name of grandfather clocks in the world. With the exception of the movements, Ridgeway clocks are made in America by American workers. Owned by Howard Miller, the movements are supplied by the prestigious German clockmaker Keininger.
Ridgeway grandfather clocks have retained a classic Old World style combined with modern timekeeping technology. Most Ridgeway grandfather clocks feature reliable electric movements combined with mechanically operated chimes.
